ANFFLA Annual Party @ Little Tujunga Ranger Station

Hi Everyone!

I just wanted to say that Joe & I had a terrific time at the gathering. We have had so much fun this year and most of it has to do with our association with this fine organization. We ate tri-tip and many of the side dishes that were brought and the desserts were out of this world! The best part for me was meeting so many of our fellow volunteers. I found everyone to be interesting and really enjoyed the stories that were shared with Joe & I. I got a cool new shirt and the best coasters ever made! We got a few minutes alone with Mike McIntyre and he really is a good soul. I had a blast sharing a table with Louie and his English friend, Albert Cooper. Those two were a hoot! Of course, we had heard alot about some of the old timers such as Kermit and it was a pleasure to be able to meet him and have him tell us about the naming of Kermits Corner on the trail up to Slide Mountain Lookout.  We always like to see Pam and George. Pam is sooo nice and Geroge is the salty type that the world needs more of! I cant end this paragraph without mentioning my dear Charlie White and the very nice woman he brought! (Thats just a joke Charlie! I know her name and I know she's your wife!)

A very special Thank You to Jim & Winnette! Joe and I had been up to Vetter Lookout many times in the last 14 years but it had never been open while we were there until the summer of 2007. We were thrilled when we saw that the tower was manned and that we would finally be able to see inside without bending down and trying to see through the holes in the shutters! That day was a very special day for us. Jim & Winnette did a great job of telling us about the tower and its history, THEN they handed us those beautiful green postcards so we could sign up for training for the next year. We send those in right away and I anxiously waited for April 2008 to roll around and the phone call or email telling me when training would be. Jim & Winnette also told us about the Hundred Peaks Section of the Sierra Club and we thought we had died and gone to heaven that day. In the past, we would just drive up to the mountains, pick a trailhead and go. NOW, we had a list, a goal, whoopie! We have seen alot and its so much fun to bag these peaks! While I have just 19 peaks as of today, I hope one day to have as many peaks under my belt as the great Bob Thompson! To sum it up, we are really happy that Jim & Winnette were there that day as we have had the best year ever!

We look forward to meeting more of our fellow volunteers, more awesome potlucks and more beautiful days at the lookouts! Next year, I am heading to Slide Mountain! Wath out John Cordi, here I come!

Thanks for everything and we look forward to seeing all of you next year OR on the trails over winter! Can someone post or email me the picture we took outside that day? persey@aol.com
