Vetter Mountain 9/09
I am so sad to hear that we have lost our lookout tower to the fire. I am mourning the loss as I am sure everyone of you are. This tower meant so much to my husband and I and we are grateful for every second we were able to spend in the tower. I can remember the day we hiked up there to find it open and were met by the nicest people, Jim & Winnette! They introduced us to the tower and told us about everything they do up there, then they handed us those green postcards to mail in so we could become volunteers. Jim & Winnette also told us about the hundred peaks club too which started Joe and I on our mission to see the peaks of the Angeles National Forest. We spent the last two years getting to know the forest intimately and have had hours and hours of fun. We have also met some of the coolest people and have had many good times! All this from a short hike to Vetter Mountain Lookout Tower!

Vetter Pictures
Hi everyone. I posted some recent pics of Vetter Mountain. Take a look. Very sad to see. Pictures were emailed to me courtesy of Carol Underhill USFS.
More Pictures
I avoided adding any pictures taken after the fire, but I guess enough time has passed, so I added the two photos we received via email from Pam. Also, see more photos from the Station Fire at "Other Photos".

Is it true?
I have not been able to verify that Vetter is gone now. This is the only mention of it anywhere. I hope that it proves to be a mistake.
Also, I notice that ANFFLA is using my photo of Vetter for their masthead here. I think I gave the original to Charles White and I'm so honored to see it being put to good use. I have several others, both inside and out, that I can contribute. Especially if it turns out that Vetter really is lost.
Yesterday reposted on flickr a picture I took from Vetter looking down at Big Tujunga cyn rd along with my impressions of the current disaster. It's getting a lot of attention from all over and I was thinking that I could put something there about how people can volunteer for ANFFLA. But I don't want to do that if Vetter and Slide are now gone.
The picture might also be useful to ANFFLA for any Lookout memorial media, etc, if necessary (God forbid). It's at:

Eric, I got an email from
Eric, I got an email from Pam Morey earlier today that she was informed last night that we lost it. Thats all I know at this point. Very sad.
Slide is still okay tho as far as I know!Sigh. It's true.
Ken also confirmed to me by e-mail. I guess after I wipe away my tears I'll come back and see what I can do to help.
Everyone, I share your pain and feel the hurt, and I know what Vetter meant to everyone. I am so sorry.
