Training for 2018 Season

Training is for ANFFLA volunteers is held once a year, usually in May.  New members have three required classes, while returning, active lookouts have one “reconnect” training to attend.  Please see below for details.

New Volunteer Training

Your first step in becoming a Fire Lookout with ANFFLA is reading the “What to Expect” letter from our President. Download the letter here.

YOU MUST ATTEND ALL THREE CLASSES, we offer them at two different times. You need to attend only one of each of the classes.

Class 1:
Orientation

  • Tuesday, May 1
    6:00 pm — 9:00 pm
  • Saturday, May 5
    10:00 am — 1:00 pm

Class 1:
Orientation

  • Two hour class offered twice during training each Spring

Class 2:
Interpretation – Natural History

  • Thursday, May 3
    6:00 pm — 9:00 pm
  • Saturday, May 5
    2:00 pm — 5:00 pm

Class 2:
Interpretation – Natural History

  • Offered twice during training each Spring

Class 3:
Operations

  • Saturday, May 12
    9:00 am — 3:00 pm
    bring a lunch

Class 3:
Operations

  • All day class offered only once each Spring

Registering for New Volunteer Training is not required but it is very helpful for us in our planning.  Please take a moment to let us know which class you plan to attend.

New Volunteer Training for the 2018 season is over, but we hope that you will consider joining us in 2019!  Training is usually in May each year and the dates are typically announced in March.  Sign up to be notified when the Spring 2019 training dates are announced.

Returning Volunteer Training

RETURNING VOLUNTEERS MUST ATTEND THIS CLASS, we offer it at two different times. You need to attend only one of the classes.

Returning lookouts may be required to complete either Operations and/or a new In Tower Training depending on how many volunteer hours you completed in the previous season.  You should have received and e-mail with instructions.  If you have any questions, please contact us.

Reconnect Training

  • Wednesday, April 11, 6:30pm — 9:30pm
  • Saturday, April 14, 10:00am — 1:00pm

  • 3 hour class offered twice each Spring for all returning volunteers
