2022 New Volunteer Application

Application Deadline: May 31, 2022.

Thank you for your interest in becoming a Fire Lookout with ANFFLA!  We are only able to accept a limited number of new volunteers this year.

All volunteers need to live within reasonable driving distance of the tower(s) that they will sever.  Generally this means living within the Greater Los Angeles Metro Area.

You will need to review the location details for each lookout prior to filling out your application.  Make sure that the lookout tower you where you would like to serve is accessible to you.

Once the applications have been reviewed we will contact you with the next steps of the training process.

Slide Mountain Lookout

Located off Intersate 5 above Pyramid Lake.  Getting to the tower requires a ?? mile hike for Fire Lookouts.  Visitors have to hike about 5 miles to the tower, so visitors are fairly rare.

Vetter Mountain Lookout

Vetter Mountain is located off of Highway 2 near the Charlton-Chilao Recreation Area.  Most cars can drive directly to the tower.  Visitors hike a little over 1 mile to visit the tower so it receives many visitors, especially on weekends.
