Training for 2020 Season

Training is for ANFFLA volunteers is held once a year, usually in May.  New members have 6 hours of Class Training plus an In-Tower Training.  Returning, active lookouts have one “reconnect” training class to attend.  Please see below for details.

COVID-19 UPDATE - May 2020

PROESPECTIVE MEMBERS: Due to the COVID-19 shutdown we have had to make the difficult decision to not train any new volunteers this season.  As of May the Forest remains closed, as do the Angeles National Forests’ facilities (which we need for training purposes).  We are sorry that we have to do this and hope that you will consider joining us for the 2021 season.

RETURNING LOOKOUTS (from the 2019 Season): We are still waiting for clearance and direction from health officials and the Angeles National Forest leadership before we move forward with re-opening our towers. You will receive any updates via the ANFFLA Members mailing list.

Thank you for your understanding.

Each Spring we offer training for new volunteers.  To accommodate schedules, there are two options for our New Volunteer classes.  One is an all-day, Saturday class.  The other is option is split into two evenings.  You need only to attend the all day class OR the two-evening classes.

Option 1 – All Day

  • One all-day class offered once during training each Spring

Option 2 – Two Evenings

  • Two evenings, each with a 3 hour class offered  each Spring
