Training for 2020 Season
Training is for ANFFLA volunteers is held once a year, usually in May. New members have 6 hours of Class Training plus an In-Tower Training. Returning, active lookouts have one “reconnect” training class to attend. Please see below for details.
COVID-19 UPDATE
PROESPECTIVE MEMBERS: Due to the COVID-19 shutdown we have had to make the difficult decision to not train any new volunteers this season. We are sorry that we have to do this and hope that you will consider joining us for the 2021 season.
RETURNING LOOKOUTS: We are moving forward under the direction of the US Forest Service with a reduced number of volunteers. Only certain returning lookouts from the 2019 season are eligible for the 2020 season due to the fact that we cannot offer any in-person training. If you have any questions about this, please contact your tower leaders.
Thank you for your understanding.
New Volunteer Training
Each Spring we offer training for new volunteers. To accommodate schedules, there are two options for our New Volunteer classes. One is an all-day, Saturday class. The other is option is split into two evenings. You need only to attend the all day class OR the two-evening classes.
Option 1 – All Day
- One all-day class offered once during training each Spring
Option 2 – Two Evenings
- Two evenings, each with a 3 hour class offered each Spring
If you choose this option you must attend BOTH classes to qualify for In-Tower Training.
In-Tower Training
- This will be scheduled at the end of your in class training.
You must complete one of the two training class options BEFORE you can schedule your In-Tower Training.
We plan on returning to our normal training for the 2021 season. Training is usually in May each year and the dates are typically announced in March. Sign up to be notified when the Spring 2021 training dates are announced.
